Odds and Ends – Technicians and Their Tools
Handbound printed book, Letraset, Canvas, Steel
2025
Odds and Ends are an artistic duo comprising Scarlett McNally and Fleur Jones. The duo first formed back in September 2025 after the pair spent their first year at Bath Spa University working on their own Practices. Interested in collaboration, they organised a skill swap, which spiralled into a name, an ethos, and a shared drive to create in partnership. Odds and Ends was formed. Their work is driven by their local environment, particularly the art school environment. In creating works about Locksbrook Campus, they hope it will reverberate in the wider conversations within art schools. Often broaching serious topics by creating in a fun, playful manner, employing humour where possible. The pair continue to create work separately within their practice, but find the act of working with another a vital element of their solo works; it holds them accountable, shares skills and knowledge and gives them another opportunity to laugh together.
Technicians and Their Tools, was the first Odds and Ends creation, combining Jones’s skills of bookbinding and McNally’s unique style of sewing canvas and photography. The pair gained newfound confidence after introducing themselves to all the technicians at Locksbrook and encouraged themselves to try new technical facilities after knowing the staff members that run them.
